Event Details

Ten years ago, recent University of Waterloo grads George Roter and Parker Mitchell saw the untapped potential of young engineers to help in the fight against global poverty. They founded Engineers Without Borders (EWB) by pushing their credit limits and working from a broom closet. In 2001 they sent their first volunteer engineering student overseas. Today, EWB is a global organization with thousands of volunteers and 35,000 members.

In 2001, Time Magazine featured Roter as a member of Canada’s next generation of social leaders. He has also been named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 and Public Policy Forum's prestigious Leaders for the Future Award.

The Change Agents Series highlights the stories and strategies of social entrepreneurs whose ideas are making change. The series is made possible by IRAP and is hosted in partnership with the Accelerator Centre and Wilfrid Laurier University.
